OneHorse offers a variety of services to children and families
One-on-one and small group literacy sessions
Each session begins settling in with the horses and goats. We provide positive opportunities for children to interact with our farm animals. We often work on the following skills: haltering, leading, brushing, learning the parts of the horse/goat. Reading and writing activities are often included during this time.
After time with the animals, we spend about an hour working on specific literacy skills: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension instruction. Our literacy instruction is based on the Science of Reading (SoR) and Structured Literacy (SL).
At this time, there is limited availability for one:one literacy instruction. Please contact us to learn more.
Consulting
We provide in person and Zoom consultation for parents and educators interested in learning about equine-assisted learning, the Science of Reading (SoR) and Structured Literacy (SL).
Workshops
OneHorse provides an immersive experience of the principles and practice of equine-assisted learning (EAL). All workshops take place at our farm and are designed to create an intentional and trustworthy space in order to explore and reflect upon what it means to enjoy one of the greatest and most healing pleasures that life affords: to learn to read and write well.
Topics will include evidence-based research from the Science of Reading, Structured Literacy, and Horse Powered Reading.
Each session will include ample time for large and small group conversations, reflection and journaling, as well as silence and solitude.
Dates and Times to be announced.
